Hello! I’m Lisa Swerdlow, MA, Special Education Advocate and Founder of ChampionEd.

As a wife and proud mom to three incredible kids, two with IEPs and one identified as gifted, I know firsthand the joys and challenges of raising children with diverse needs. I'm a West LA native with a deep understanding of the local special education system from both a professional and personal perspective. My mission is to guide and support other parents through their own journeys.

My passion for advocating for children with disabilities began over 20 years ago at the start of my career as a public school Special Day Class teacher. In that role, I gained invaluable experience developing and implementing IEPs, collaborating with school teams, and creating positive, inclusive learning environments tailored to each student’s unique needs. It was also where I found my voice as a relentless champion for children.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in General Education. As a strong believer in continued learning, I regularly attend trainings and conferences to stay up-to-date with contemporary research and best practices.

Beyond direct advocacy, I support teachers and parents in applying positive behavior support strategies to effectively manage challenging behaviors, both in the classroom and at home.

My dual perspective as an educator and a parent allows me to offer practical, effective solutions that truly support and empower the families I serve. I approach every situation with dedication and empathy. I can assure you that I will advocate for your child with the same passion and commitment that I bring to advocating for my own.

When I’m not advocating for children, you can find me at the do-jang practicing taekwondo with my kids. As a third-degree black belt, I apply the principles at the core of my martial arts training, integrity, respect, and perseverance, to my approach as an advocate. I believe that by fostering strong collaboration between families and schools, we can achieve the best outcomes. Well-supported children benefit not only their families but also the schools they attend, creating a win-win that leads to long-term positive change.

Navigating the world of special education can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. With personalized support, we can champion success together.

You are a champion! I’ve got your back every step of the way.

Investing in advocacy is

Let’s champion a better future together!
